In 2018, I wanted to volunteer for the AAPI community employee resource group. I attended their calls and helped with graphics when needed. But I noticed a lack of involvement and meaningful discussions that aligned with my interests. So in 2019, I became the Communications Chair for the Asian & Pacific Islander Coalition of Otis Elevator. This allowed me to lead initiatives and address these issues. We organized events and meetings to explore important topics. We also sent out newsletters and increased our presence on Yammer to improve member engagement. Our goal was to create a diverse and inclusive community, where members could learn and grow. My initial involvement in 2018 led to my role as Communications Chair in 2019, where we focused on improving engagement and providing valuable resources.

Once the pandemic hit, there everything went to our computers at home and there was more of a need for faster communication and larger scaled events to engage our members during this difficulty time, especially with the increase of Asian hate crimes.

In 2021 I stepped up to become the Vice Chair and quickly developed a plan to change the branding and start afresh. APCOE became WAVE. And with it’s name we made a big splash.

We grew our membership engagement by 43%. I recruited additional chairs to focus on specialty events, culture, community, communications, and membership. We dove deep into the data, engaging our executive sponsors to push our initiatives. We partnered with our DE&I partners to help us with our programing and budget constraints. We held events with our peer ERG groups like PRIDE and HOLA (the hispanic ERG). In March of 2023, I was appointed Chair and developed a strategy to tackle the opportunities that we were facing with our ERG. Our programming and strides we accomplished was recognized at Otis’ Global ERG Summit. Where 77 of my peers voted me as ERG Leader of the Year. This was amongst all ERGS in every country.
